In a world of commotion, our voices have been silenced. We are taught to speak our minds, but that power has been torn away by the system. We have become disconnected from ourselves and from society, unwilling to take even the first step. We have allowed others to steer our thoughts and words, giving them the power to strip us of our very being. And as a result, our mental clarity has decimated. The stigmas around mental health and the divisions that have converted social justice to social injustice have continued for far too long.
Now, we repossess. We repossess our minds and our society. We make the changes — restoring our mental health and bringing forth social justice — as we were always destined to. We break the barriers of passivity and face the world united, strong, and persevering. “Oh you who believe, stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even if it be against yourselves or your parents or your kin.” (Surah Nisaa, Ayah 135). The time is now. And as we step up to face the world, it may seem daunting but we must remember that through these trials, we can and we will succeed, because “Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.” (Surah Baqarah, Ayah 286)
