Non-Hifz Categories

› Recitation Requirement:
Participants will be asked to recite any surah from Surah Al-Fajr to Surah An-Naas.

› Recitation Requirement:
Participants will be asked to recite any surah from Surah Al-Naba to Surah Al-Ghashia.

› Participants may be allowed to use a Mushaf (physical or digital) to assist in recitation.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR QURAN COMPETITION

 

General Rules for All Categories

  • Eligibility

    › This competition is not open to Quran teachers, Imams, or Community Leaders.

  • Registration

    › ICNA-MAS Annual Convention registration is required to participate in the Quran Competition.

  • Cancellation of Category

    › If any category has less than 5 participants, the category will be cancelled.

  • Award Criteria

    › If 10 or more participants then 3 Award Winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) will be selected.
    › If 5 to 9 Participants then only 1 winner will be selected for the 1st position. 2nd and 3rd position winners will receive a Certificate Award only.

Judging Criteria

The following points define the Judging Criteria for all categories (Hifz and Non-Hifz) unless specified otherwise.

  • Accuracy of Pronunciation (Tajweed)

    › Proper pronunciation of each letter and word according to the rules of Tajweed is crucial. The reciter must demonstrate a high level of accuracy in articulating each letter clearly.

  • 2. Makhārij (Articulation Points)

    › Judges will evaluate the proper articulation of Arabic letters from their specific places of pronunciation in the mouth, throat, and tongue.
    › Distinction between similar letters (e.g., ع vs. ء, ص vs. س) is vital.

  • Tajweed (Rules of Quranic Recitation)

    › Proper application of Tajweed rules such as sukun, shaddah, mudood, and ghunnah will be evaluated. › The reciter must correctly handle pauses (waqf), elongations (madd), and specific rules related to the phonetic flow of recitation.

  • Melodiousness

    › The voice should be melodious and pleasant. Judges will assess how well the reciter’s voice enhances the beauty of the Quranic verses, maintaining a harmonious and smooth tone.

  • Accuracy of Memorization (Hifz Categories Only)

    › Judges will assess how accurately the participant has memorized the specific Juzz or portion of the Quran. › Any mistakes during the recitation will affect the overall score.

FAQs

 

We encourage children to put their best effort to memorize Quran, we do not ask if they completed their
syllabus or not.

The competition start time is 10 am. You should bring your child on time but no later than 10:15 am or your
child might miss his/her chance.

You won't be able to choose or select a category once it reaches the maximum participant limit.

Contestant will be given a baskets to pick a random card, and hand over to the judge. Judge then will recite
the Ayah mentioned on the card and contestant will continue to recite for about 7 Ayah or judge will decide
when to stop.

We have organized a separate room only for sisters, girls 12 and older, will be tested by our Sister Judges.

Younger participants can choose to participate in their age group or older age group, however older participants cannot compete in the younger age group.

  • 12 years old can participate in Freshman, Sophomore or Junior Hifz
  • 14 years old can participate in Sophomore or Junior Hifz
  • 16 years old can only participate in Junior Hifz
  • FRESHMAN HIFZ: JUZ 30
  • SOPHOMORE HIFZ: JUZ 29
  • JUNIOR HIFZ: JUZ 25 - 28

Yes, on-site registration will be available on Saturday from 3 PM to 5 PM (by the Convention Registration Booths). Please be aware that your preferred category may already be closed if it has reached its maximum capacity. Our recommendation is to register online, ahead of time.
